Natural remedies are the best and safest for children under the age of two. Most over the counter medicine is unsafe for your child at such an early age. I am always researching natural remedies for my son when he has a cold. I’ve discovered that using a Humidifier, elevating your child’s head at night, keeping their bed lining clean, giving them saline drops and a lot of fluids really helps heal them faster when they have a cold. Please consult with your child’s physician before trying any at home remedies or if their cold worsens.
Humidifiers helps moisten the air, alleviating bacteria from traveling through the air. I add eucalyptus oil to the water when I use the humidifier for my son and it adds a therapeutic smell in the air. Humidifiers are great for relieving colds, asthma, clearer skin and purifying the air in your home. Most babies tend to get a cold due to the dry air or cold weather during the winter time. Humidifiers help soothe cold and flu symptoms and is completely safe for your baby.
Elevating your child’s head at night helps because them breathe better, it’s easier to breathe through a stuffy nose when they’re propped up opposed to lying flat. Place a pillow under the mattress to help create the elevation. Be sure to wash their linen frequently.
Saline drops are great for helping thin out the mucus, you can use a nasal suction bulb or the Nose Frieda to help suck the mucus from their nose. I use the nasal spray by Little remedies but you can purchase them at any baby store, drug store, Target or Walmart in the baby section.
Increasing fluids such as water (if baby is six months and older) breast milk and formula will help thin out the mucus as well. As a result they’ll be coughing up more of the mucus.
Having a sick baby is no fun especially when you can’t give them medicine, so try these at home remedies today and ease your little one!
